The Moorings @ Devon offer mental health support to anyone aged 18+ in the Devon area, from three locations in Barnstaple, Exeter, and Torquay:

The Moorings @ Barnstaple

Open: Wednesday to Sunday, 4pm-10pm, virtual support only Monday to Tuesday, 4pm-10pm

Open: Friday to Tuesday, 4pm-10pm, virtual support only Wednesday  to Thursday, 4pm-10pm

The Moorings @ Torquay

Open: Monday to Sunday, 4pm-10pm
Address: South Devon & Torbay Mental Health Centre, Torbay Hospital, Lowes Bridge, TQ2 7AA

Calls will be answered by staff during Mooring opening hours. You may call and leave a message at any other time of day, and these will be picked up and responded to as soon as possible during opening hours. Please be aware that our voicemail can take over a minute to activate and we appreciate your patience when leaving a message. Emails are monitored during Mooring opening hours.

What can you expect from us:

The Moorings offer mental health support in a welcoming, safe, comfortable, non-judgmental, and non-clinical environment.

Our experienced staff team is available to provide emotional, social and practical support if you are in crisis or feel you are heading toward a crisis situation.

We offer support in person, over the phone, or via video call. You can come just for a chat, or to access one-to-one support from trained professionals.

We also offer help in creating staying well and crisis plans, and support visitors to access other organisations that may be useful to them.

There's no need to be referred and no need for an appointment.

Who is this service for?

Anyone aged 18 and over can come to The Mooring locations, you don't need a formal referral or appointment.

Please note: The Mooring is not suitable for people needing urgent medical attention (for example, after self-harm), for urgent medical care please attend your nearest A&E or call 999.

Please also be mindful that if your behaviour is inappropriate and/or negatively impacting the safety and wellbeing of others using the service, you may be turned away.

Additional support

Head Space - Plymouth

If you live in Plymouth, support is available at Head Space, delivered by our trusted partner Colebrook. Head Space offers an out-of-hours service for people who feel they may be approaching a mental health crisis. It provides a safe, calm, and structured, non-clinical environment where individuals can access peer support.

Winter Warmer Drop-ins

This winter, Mental Health Matters and the Devon Mental Health Alliance have partnered to run weekly 'Winter Warmer' sessions across Devon. These will be friendly, welcoming spaces to help you stay well throughout the colder months running until June 2026.

The sessions are free and open to all adults (18+). Whether you'd like to pop in just once or come along regularly, you'll always be welcome. You can have a one-to-one chat with a member of our team, get help connecting with other services, or simply take a break and enjoy a hot drink.
