Today, Health Secretary Wes Streeting announced the launch of an independent review into the increasing demand for mental health, ADHD, and autism services in England.

Responding to the announcement, Jane Hughes, Chief Executive Officer of Mental Health Matters, said:

"We welcome the focus on whether gaps in support exist and hope that with in-depth research, there will be a true understanding of the nation’' mental health.

If this review is truly independent, we are ready to support the panel and provide evidence.

We are confident this review will find that a lack of preventative support and challenges, including the cost of living, are driving the rise in mental health demand.

What we need is for the government to increase funding to match the need and put an end to the harmful rhetoric of 'overdiagnosis'".
