Apprenticeships at MHM – Colleagues Share Their Experiences It's National Apprenticeship Week, and we're celebrating the incredible impact apprenticeships have on careers and workplaces across the UK. At Mental Health Matters, apprenticeships have helped our employees gain professional recognition, develop new skills, and transition into new roles at every stage of their careers. They offer the opportunity to achieve qualifications while learning on the job and putting new skills into practice immediately. This year, we're sharing insights from colleagues who have undertaken apprenticeships with Mental Health Matters, reflecting on how this route has supported their development and progression. Bryony Baker, Deputy Area Manager – Devon Bryony is currently completing her Level 5 Management and Leadership apprenticeship while working as Deputy Area Manager in Devon. "During my Level 5 management and leadership apprenticeship with Mental Health Matters, I've felt a great sense of pride and honour in what I've achieved, all while managing my current role! If you're offered the opportunity to learn while you earn, I would absolutely seize it in a heartbeat! Dan, our Learning and Funding Coordinator, has been fantastic during my apprenticeship, consistently checking in and making sure I am satisfied with the lessons I am receiving!" Clair O'Connor, National Helpline Manager Clair is undertaking a professional coaching apprenticeship to enhance her leadership skills. "I am thoroughly enjoying completing my professional coaching apprenticeship, as it has deepened my self-awareness and strengthened the way I show up as a leader. The apprenticeship has enhanced my ability to listen with intent, ask thoughtful and challenging questions, and create space for others to think and take ownership of their development. These skills directly support my leadership role by enabling me to build trust, empower my team, and approach conversations with greater curiosity and confidence. Applying coaching principles in my day-to-day leadership practice has improved the quality of my relationships, supported more reflective decision-making, and helped foster a culture of learning, accountability, and continuous improvement." Olivia Boal, People Co-ordinator Olivia completed her CIPD Level 3 through an apprenticeship while working in the People team. "Completing my CIPD Level 3 through an apprenticeship has allowed me to learn while making a meaningful contribution in a mental health charity. I've really valued being able to apply my learning in a real HR environment, supporting people and services that make a difference, while building my confidence and developing my own career in HR and recruitment." Sarah Rajabalee, Team Manager – Medway Safe Haven Sarah is completing her Level 5 in Coaching to develop her leadership approach. "I have been a Team Manager for a few years, however, there were a few areas which I wanted to develop. The Level 5 in Coaching has given me the tools and confidence to become a more reflective leader. I enjoy that I can use the skills taught straight away at work and it has changed my relationships with staff in a positive way. It has been a challenge to juggle work with the study, however, my tutor and MHM have been flexible which has been a huge help. Doing the apprenticeship has been very beneficial to me and it already has changed how I work." At Mental Health Matters, we're committed to supporting our employees' professional development at every stage of their career. Apprenticeships are just one of the ways we invest in our people, enabling them to grow their skills and progress in their roles. Manage Cookie Preferences
